Emmanuel Rising Up

Did you know that there are some verses in the Bible that learned theologians and Bible Commentators avoid?  John 14:20  is one of those verses.  Part of me feels like Tiviah in Fiddler on the Roof  saying, “oh vey, why me Lord”.  Why did you want me to share from this portion of your word?  Amazingly I have found a reliable and revered source of wisdom beyond my own listening, reading and experience.  CS Lewis has not avoided this passage like so many others and we find it expounded on in Mere Christianity as well as his book on Joy.

So here we are with a bright idea that started over a decade ago that I believe comes from the heart of God.In John 14:19,20 Jesus is comforting his disciples, “You will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

Emmanuel- you are in me

Emmanuel- I am in you

Col 1:26  talks about the glorious riches of this mystery revealed, Christ in you the hope of Glory.”

The early church understood the mystery of Christ in you and lived out community in a way that honoured the presence of God in one another.

Sit with these two verses.  What rises up in you?  How would living out of this space change your life?
